Neonatral Biliary Obstruction

Abstract

|
Neonatal biliary obstruction have complex problems, not only in the differential diagnosis of cases correctable to surgical procedures as compared to those of hepatocellular origin, but also to improve the persistent low salvage rate obtained even for the correctable lesions. Surgery should be done before 3 months of age to prevent sequelle of prolonged biliary obstruction, cirrhosis, portal hypertension, hepatic failure and death. Differential diagnosis between neonatal giant cell hepatitis is difficult. Various method of treatment including Kasai´s methods are discussed.
